Applying for a grant

Grant Sources

Culver Arts solicits grant application from both non-profit organizations that have a 501 (C)(3) letter from the Internal Revenue Service as well as individuals whose work will benefit the Culver City Community.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Reside or work in Culver City, 
  • At least 18 years old
  • Be the principal creator/performer or manager of the work submitted
  • Must include a matching fund/resources component (i.e. CCAF can  not be the sole supporter of the project)

Application Deadlines

  • Letter of Intent; Submitted online or by mail by December 15, 2019
  • Board Responses to LOI; Due to applicants by January 15, 2019
  • Grant Proposal; Submitted online or by mail by February 15, 2020
  • Successful Grants; Awarded by March 15, 2020

Application Process

Culver Arts has a two-step application process that includes both a Letter of Intent (LOI) and a full grant proposal.

Step 1: Letter of Intent

A letter of intent must precede a formal grant proposal. The purpose of the letter is to determine it an organization/individual fits within the eligibility guidelines. The Culver Arts Board will review the letters of inquiry and notify prospective of the results.

The Letter of Intent must include:

  • Information about your organization/individual’s mission, 
  • General activities and annual budget
  • Project need, goals, leadership and duration of project
  • Population served, community impact
  • Total amount requested from Culver Arts and how the funds are to be used.

Step 2: Grant Proposal

Culver Arts only reviews grant proposals from applicants whose Letter of Intent has been approved. If your Letter of Intent is selected to go forward, you must complete the application process by completing the CCAF online grant application.

Funding Areas

The Foundation considers three project categories. Grant proposals must specify one project category. See definition below each category.

— Arts Grants

Arts Grants include performing, visual and fine arts, and literary arts.

Definition:

  • Forms of creative activities that are performed in front of an audience
  • Visual and Fine Arts created primary for visual enjoyment
  • Literary Arts is the integration of ideation, literary apparition and creative writing.

— Equipment/Facility Grants

Definition:   

  • Funds that are used for the purchase, improvement or maintenance of equipment or facilities used for art production.

— Experience Grants

Definition:

  • Funds that are used for student field trips to arts facilities, internships or mentorships with arts organizations

Applicant’s Required Information

Applicants must submit the following information with each completed grant application:

  • Name, title, address, phone and email of contact individual.
  • A description of the organization or individual’s activity including mission statement, number of full-time and part-time staff and length of time in Culver City.
  • A description of the project (no more than 400 words) including start and completion dates.
  • If other organizations or individuals are involved in the project, an explanation of their roles and inclusion of Confirmation of Participation letters
  • A description of how the project meets the objectives of our grant program including advancement of the arts, benefit to the community, exposure of the arts to underserved members of our communities, etc.
  • The targeted audience for the project and involvement of arts residents.
  • If a public performance or presentation, where will it take place?
  • A detailed project budget, including income sources, expenses, in-kind resources and matching funds provided.
  • The amount of grant funding requested and how the funds will be used.
  • If applicable, a copy of the organization’s most recent financial statement.
  • Identification of proposed measurable project outcomes (no more than 100 words)

Only grant proposals that are submitted electronically will be considered.

You will be notified by March 15 if you have been chosen for a Grant with the Culver City Arts Foundation.
