Culver City Symphony Orchestra – Pastoral Symphony for Earth Day
April 21 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
FreeClyde Mitchell, the new Music Director-Conductor of the Culver City Symphony Orchestra, returns to the podium to lead the Orchestra in a program of works inspired by Spring and the countryside. Join us as we celebrate Earth Day and the season of rebirth and growth.
We open with Frühlingsstimmen (“Voices of Spring”) by the “Waltz King” Johann Strauss II, in its original version as a display piece for solo soprano and orchestra, featuring Brooke deRosa, soprano.
Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring began life as a score for a ballet that celebrated “not just any Spring but the Spring of America.” Copland subsequently arranged a Suite for full orchestra, which has become one of his best known and best loved works.
Our program ends with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, the “Pastoral.”
