From Venice to Culver City.
Culver Arts will welcome three international artists to Culver City for a special Artist Residency in November 2027, in partnership with the Arte Laguna Prize.
Based in Venice, Italy, the Arte Laguna Prize is an international contemporary art competition that brings together artists and creative partners from around the world. This year’s Finalists Exhibition and Special Prizes will be presented at the Arsenale in Venice on November 6, before the closing of La Biennale.
The 2027 residents
As part of Culver Arts’ participation, we are proud to award three Artist Residencies in Culver City to artists selected from the Arte Laguna Prize.
Toronto, Canada
An architectural designer and multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the intersection of structural geometry, fine art, architecture, identity, and memory. Drawing inspiration from the multi-focal logic of Persian miniature painting, Hashemi creates layered works that transform painting into three-dimensional sculptural forms.
Rijeka, Croatia
A Croatian sculptor whose practice is rooted in classical materials and techniques. A graduate of the Academy of Applied Arts at the University of Rijeka, Makarun has exhibited internationally and created numerous public sculptures and commissions throughout Croatia.
Taiwan / London
An interdisciplinary artist working across sound art, moving image, installation, and natural sciences. Chiang’s practice examines land ecology, natural cycles, and human perception, using sound and multimedia to explore the evolving relationship between people and the environment.
During their November 2027 residencies, Culver Arts looks forward to introducing Shirin, Juraj, and Yi to our community and creating opportunities for cultural exchange, artistic exploration, and connection here in Culver City.

Selection
The three residents were selected from more than 350 proposals, curated by Paal Anand and Alexey Steele and juried by Nicholas Fahey, director of Fahey/Klein Gallery.
Home base
The residents will live at Culver City’s Wende Museum during their 2027 residency, with programming around the residency led by Joes Segal, the Wende’s chief curator and director of programming.
